Market indices

How the indices on the home page are calculated.

Each index tracks the market price of one game’s 100 most valuable cards. The basket is chosen from the cards with the highest market price on the day it is formed, leaving out cards whose price data looks unreliable (no set, inconsistent or single quotes, or an extreme spread between the source’s low, mid and high prices). Every card has the same weight. The basket is reviewed once a month, on the first day with data, using that day’s prices, and each new basket continues from the level the previous one reached. The index starts at 100 on its base date. Values are calculated once a day from the daily market prices; if a card has no price on a given day, its last price from up to three days earlier is used. Daily moves per card are capped at ±50% to limit the impact of data errors. Where the price source is a US market, moves are measured in US dollars, so the exchange rate does not show up as a market move.

An index is shown only while its game’s prices are updating (at least 20% of its cards of €2 or more changed price in the last 7 days), and a new index needs 30 days of comparable prices before it starts.

Market data for information only. Not investment advice. Collectible prices can go down as well as up.
